The 'Basic' Thailand Massage Course is a very comprehensive course and may be challenging at times.   Thailand Massage has received a great deal of publicity in the recent past due to the rise in the popularity of Yoga.

NICOLE BACON

Training & influences ~ Nicole began her studies in yoga over two decades ago in England, and has been teaching in the United States since 1994. She continues to study periodically with Nancy Gilgoff (of Maui, HI) in the astanga vinyasa tradition and pursues regular study with Zoë Stewart (of Arlington, MA) in the BKS Iyengar tradition. Both inspire Nicole’s teachings. Other influences include Beryl Bender Birch, Doug Swenson, Seane Corn, Dharma Mittra, Jack Kornfeld, Alvin Ailey, and Gabrielle Roth, amongst others! Nicole is also a student of Uechi Ryu Karate. Nicole co-founded Yoga Mandala studio in Winchester, MA, in 2001.

Nicole teaches Nadi Yoga (nadi is derived from the Sanskrit ‘nad,’ which signifies ‘flowing,’ ‘vibration,’ ‘movement’), an alchemy of hatha and raja yoga practices which explores the subtle (and often not-so-subtle) modulations in our bodies and breath, in our minds, in our emotional and intellectual states. The fundamental nature of nadi flow yoga is to experience energy flow in a nurturing and mindful way without sacrificing the continuity of physical movement and detoxifying internal heat of ujjayi breath. Inspired by the three founding tenets of Taoism—patience, simplicity, compassion—Nicole invites and encourages students to explore, experience, and experiment with that which is unique to each of them.

As Richard Bach writes in Illusions, “Learning is finding out what you already know. Doing is demonstrating that you know it. Teaching is reminding others that they know just as well as you.”

Fundamentals of flow

(NOT ONLY FOR BEGINNERS!  STUDENTS WITH EXPERIENCE IN ASANA WILL LOVE THE CLASS TOO!)

Fundamentals of Flow 90 minute classes are designed for the total beginner.  Essentially we slowly flow through the elements that comprise the standard flow and slow flow classes.  Each class we will place emphasis on a different element.  Some elements are:

  • Decompressing with child's pose and breath
  • Understanding Yogic breathing Ujjayi
  • Basic sun salutation A and B series
  • Twisting from the navel and aligning the hips
  • Understanding balance and gaze
  • Growing roots in standing postures
  • Safe back bending and variations to build suppleness
  • Are inversions right for your body?  Let's explore them.
  • Shavasana.  Final resting pose.

Each class, very much like our standard flow and slow flow classes will offer variety in sequencing to keep the student on their toes.  This is an ongoing class and even if you come to the two classes a week and don't ever attend another class you will find yourself being challenged and able to grow and learn.

Fundamentals of Flow classes are smaller ranging from 5-10 students which allows for hands on personal attention.

This class is designed to move slowly and allow time for the student to feel the positioning.  The teacher will talk to beginner in the class.  If there are no beginners then we will monitor the level and adjust appropriately.  This class is basically a 90 minute Slow Flow class focusing on educating, empowering and inspiring.

If you have ANY questions about the class please email us.
