Acupuncture, Shiatsu, Deep Tissue/Sweedish Massage, Thai Yoga Massage and Nutritional Counseling:
Inner Strength, like Eastern medicine, believes in healing the person as a whole. Treating one's physical, mental and spiritual aspects as a single system, our practitioners use various therapies to bring their patients into balance and health.
Acupuncture

The Practitioner
Matthew Amato holds a Masters Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) from the New England School of Acupuncture and is licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Medicine. He is trained and certified in Traditional Chinese and Japanese styles of acupuncture as well as being a Chinese herbalist. In addition to his training at NESA, Matthew has studied Tong Ren Therapy under Master Tom Tam of the Oriental Culture Institute, treating cancer, multiple sclerosis and hospice patients.
Through his commitment to helping a broad range of patients, much of his training was performed in Community Health Centers and Detox Centers.
Matthew’s treatment philosophy is that the body is the healer and the acupuncturist is merely a conduit. Within that philosophy is an integral approach combining acupuncture and Chinese herbs with Tuina (Chinese massage), energy healing, and bodywork modalities such as Sotai, all of which Matthew has trained in over the years. This approach, with exercise, such as yoga, and dietary changes, embodies a lifestyle therapy that can work to teach the body new ways to heal itself.
The Process
Oriental medicine treats the person as a whole. Your initial visit for acupuncture or herbal medicine will involve a conversation and thorough examination of all signs and symptoms which determine your diagnosis. Each treatment is uniquely tailored to maintain a balance of the patient physically, mentally, and spiritually. The initial visit generally lasts 90 minutes, and follow up visits are approximately 60 minutes.
The Application
Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years. In that time, it has adapted to treat just about any ailment a person can have. Below is a short list of common health issues we face daily that can be helped with acupuncture and the other healing modalities Matthew has learned.

Nutrition and Health Counseling:
Daniel’s approach is a unique, exciting innovation in health and nutrition. As a Health Counselor, Daniel has studied all the major dietary theories and will help you discover what approach works best for you at this point in your life.
While most dietitians dwell on calories, carbs, fats, proteins, restrictions and lists of good and bad foods, Daniel works with his clients to create a happy, healthy life in a way that is flexible, fun and free of denial and discipline.
No one diet works for everyone. Daniel will guide you to find the food and lifestyle choices that best support you. He will also help you to make gradual, lifelong changes that enable you to reach your current and future health goals.
A Holistic Approach:
A holistic approach to nutrition involves looking at how all areas of your life are connected. Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? As we work together, we look at how all parts of your life affect the whole.
No One Diet Works for Everyone
The concept of bio-individuality is that each person has their own nutritional needs. So, when the experts say, “dairy is good for you” or “fat is unhealthy,” it’s too much of a generalization. One person’s food is another person’s poison, and that’s why fad diets don’t work in the long run. Together we will look at your age, health, activity level, blood type, metabolic rate and personal preferences to determine your
dietary needs.
Everything is Food
Healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, regular physical activity and a spiritual practice are essential forms of nourishment. When these “primary foods” are balanced, what you eat becomes secondary.

The Application of Shiatsu
Shiatsu uses a gentle yet deep touch combined with assisted stretching and other corrective techniques in order to clear contracted areas in the body, allowing energy to circulate freely.
Traditionally given on a comfortable futon, no oil is used, and the receiver remains clothed for the treatment. Loose comfortable clothing is recommended.
A shiatsu session is a dynamic interchange of energy on many different levels. There is no rigid formula. Every treatment is a full body treatment- working the body head to toe, though each session will differ from the next as it is designed for the special needs of the individual.
We all have our own aches and stresses. Each body holds tensions in different areas and in different manners. During a treatment these tensions and blockages are cleared.
The Health Benefits
Shiatsu helps to maintain overall health and increases body-mind awareness. This enables the receiver to experience a sense of wellbeing and peace of mind by further establishing a healthy relationship with the body. A treatment provides the client space to open up, and see the true cause for his or her condition.
Shiatsu is most beneficial for:
- Deep Relaxation.
- Acute and Chronic Pain muscle tension (such as neck, shoulder and back aches).
- Headaches and migraines.
- Respiratory and Circulatory Disorders.
- Digestive Problems.
- Menstrual Disorders
- Psychological Issues and Stress related disorders: Anxiety, Grief, Depression and
Insomnia.
- Correcting long term Postural Imbalances.
By improving circulation, and releasing toxins and deep-seated tensions from the muscles, you will leave feeling refreshed and relaxed.

~Kimberly Coleman
The Process
The process of massage therapy begins with understanding the body on all levels. It is important for Christine to establish a human, energetic connection before getting into the application. She incorporates energy work into each and every massage. Her different massage techniques help to do the following for well-being:
· Decrease muscle tension, pain, and discomfort
· Increase circulation and mobility
· Strengthen immunity
· Aid in muscle recovery from strain and injury
· Promote self-awareness and educate in self-care
· Balance chakras (energy centers)
The Application
Each session begins by opening the lines of communication between client and therapist. By understanding what is going on with each individual body, Christine can personalize a treatment plan. A postural alignment analysis is then performed. Once an understanding of the body has been established, proper application pressure and technique can be determined. Following muscle work, a one on one consultation is done with the client to review the session and to establish ongoing treatment.
